Mabwepande Project for Improving Social and Economic Status of Girls and Young Women 2019

Youth Aid Education Possible Changes Organization (YAPO) is implementing a six months project which target to empower girls and young women socially and economically while creating an environmental awareness and justice.

This project is funded by the Global GreenGrants Fund and implemented by YAPO in collaboration with the Mabwepande Ward government and other environment stakeholders. The total of 250 girls and young women from the five streets of the ward were given a comprehensive course on transforming trash into treasure. They were trained on how to use plastic bottles, nylons and other paper waste to make ornaments, artificial flowers, vessels, images, carpets and decorations.

Other community members were also reached out by the project through community sensitization sessions conducted on monthly basis with the aim of creating environmental protection education for sustainable use. Community members were trained on proper methods of dumping trash especially the plastic wastes, home-based recycling, repurpose and reuse of products.
